Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus placed in 6th, 7th, and 8th from Moon. Indicates leadership, wealth, and influential position.

Eight-source benefic-point system. Each planet plus Lagna contributes points to every house. Total points (Sarvāṣṭakavarga) reveals strong vs weak houses.

The 8-factor 36-point compatibility framework: Varṇa (1) + Vaśya (2) + Tārā (3) + Yoni (4) + Graha-maitrī (5) + Gaṇa (6) + Bhakūṭa (7) + Nāḍī (8). 18+ acceptable, 24+ excellent, 32+ rare-auspicious.

"Soul-significator." Planet with the highest degree in any sign. Reveals soul-purpose theme of the incarnation. Central to Jaimini astrology.

A "house" — one of 12 life-domain divisions of the chart. 1st = self, 2nd = wealth, 7th = partnership, 10th = career, etc.

7th of the 8 Aṣṭakūṭa factors · 7 points · governs family + financial harmony based on Moon-sign distance between partners. Loss of points if partners' Moon signs are 6:8 or 5:9 from each other.

Process of refining a recorded birth time using event-history (marriage, career changes, accidents). Critical when birth time is rounded or unknown. Architect tier includes BTR.

"Movable" zodiac signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn. Indicate change, initiative, leadership.

"Shadow planets" — Rāhu and Ketu (lunar nodes). Not physical bodies but mathematical points. Drive obsession (Rāhu) and detachment (Ketu).

A planetary time-period. Vimśottarī Daśā divides 120 years across 9 planets — Sun (6y), Moon (10y), Mars (7y), Rāhu (18y), Jupiter (16y), Saturn (19y), Mercury (17y), Ketu (7y), Venus (20y).

An inauspicious yoga or placement. Common doṣas: Maṅgalika (Mars), Kāla-sarpa (all planets between Rāhu-Ketu), Pitṛ (ancestral karma), Nāḍī (genetic incompatibility).

3rd divisional chart — each sign split into 3 of 10° each. Reveals siblings, courage, short-term effort.

6th of the 8 Aṣṭakūṭa · 6 points · classifies temperament: Deva (divine), Manuṣya (human), Rākṣasa (asuric). Same-gaṇa or compatible-gaṇa pairings get full points.

"Seizer" — a planet. The 9 grahas (Navagraha) are: Sūrya (Sun), Candra (Moon), Maṅgala (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Bṛhaspati (Jupiter), Śukra (Venus), Śani (Saturn), Rāhu, Ketu.

5th of 8 Aṣṭakūṭa · 5 points · friendship between Moon-sign rulers. Mental compatibility indicator.

2nd divisional chart. Each sign split into 2 halves of 15°. Reveals wealth + financial flow patterns.

Alternative astrological school based on the sage Jaimini. Uses Cara-Daśā, Karakas (significators), and rāśi-aspects rather than Vimśottarī-Parāśarī method.

"Birth chart." The natal horoscope · static · computed from precise birth date, time, place.

"Science of light." The Vedic system of astrology. One of the six Vedāṅgas (limbs of the Veda).

"Time-serpent" doṣa: all 7 planets between Rāhu and Ketu. Indicates karmic-loop pattern · obsessive themes · phase-locked life-script.

"Doer" or significator. Planets that rule specific life domains: Sun = soul, Moon = mind, Venus = wife, Jupiter = husband/teacher, Mars = brother.

"Chart-matching" — pre-marriage compatibility check using Aṣṭakūṭa 8-fold framework, Maṅgalika check, Nāḍī doṣa, Bhakūṭa check.

"Ascendant" — the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. Defines the 1st house and frames the entire chart. Changes every ~2 hours.

"Great period" — the longest planetary period. 9 mahā-daśās span 120 years.

Mars in 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from Lagna or Moon. Increases marital tension. Mitigated by partner also being Maṅgalika.

Auspicious time-window for an action. 30 muhūrtas in a 24-hour day. TRIKĀLA's α-time gating is the muhūrta-equivalent for daily decisions.

8th and most weighted Aṣṭakūṭa factor · 8 points · genetic / progeny compatibility. Same-Nāḍī (Ādi-Ādi or Madhya-Madhya or Antya-Antya) is doṣa — typically 0 points awarded.

"Lunar mansion." 27 divisions of the zodiac, each 13°20′ wide. Each ruled by a Vimśottarī planet. Janma-nakṣatra = Moon's nakṣatra at birth.

9th divisional chart. Each sign split into 9 parts of 3°20′ each. Reveals marriage, dharma, true planet strength. The most important varga after Lagna.

Sage Parāśara · author of Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra · the foundational text of mainstream Vedic astrology. Defines Vimśottarī Daśā, 16 vargas, planetary aspects.

"Ancestral karma" doṣa. Sun afflicted in 9th, or Sun-Rāhu/Saturn conjunction. Indicates inherited family-karma to resolve through dharmic action.

North lunar node. Shadow planet · drives obsession, foreign influence, technology, sudden gain or fall. 18-year mahā-daśā.

"Royal combination" · Kendra (1/4/7/10) lord with Trikoṇa (1/5/9) lord. Indicates power, authority, leadership during the relevant daśā periods.

Zodiac sign. 12 rāśis from Aries (Meṣa) to Pisces (Mīna). Each spans 30° of the celestial circle.

"Seven-and-a-half." Saturn's 7.5-year transit through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd houses from natal Moon. Famous for hardship and karmic re-balancing.

"Pacification." Ritual or practice that mitigates a doṣa or hostile planetary phase. Mantras, gemstones, charity, fasting.

3rd of 8 Aṣṭakūṭa · 3 points · longevity/health compatibility computed from nakṣatra-distance between the partners' Moon-nakṣatras.

"Lunar day." 30 tithis per lunar month — 15 in waxing (Śukla pakṣa), 15 in waning (Kṛṣṇa pakṣa). Defines fasting and festival days.

"Three forms" · Brahmā (creation) · Viṣṇu (preservation) · Śiva (transformation). Astrologically: Sun, Moon, Saturn or Mars/Jupiter/Saturn depending on tradition.

"Growing" houses: 3, 6, 10, 11. Malefics here (Saturn, Mars, Rāhu) actually do well — they grow over time.

"Division." Subdivision of a sign into smaller parts. 16 standard vargas (Ṣoḍaśavarga) — D-1, D-2, D-3, D-4, D-7, D-9, D-10, D-12, D-16, D-20, D-24, D-27, D-30, D-40, D-45, D-60.

1st Aṣṭakūṭa factor · 1 point · spiritual category. Brāhmaṇa (Cancer/Scorpio/Pisces) · Kṣatriya (Aries/Leo/Sagittarius) · Vaiśya (Taurus/Virgo/Capricorn) · Śūdra (Gemini/Libra/Aquarius).

"120-year cycle." Most-used Daśā system. Period sequence: Ketu 7y → Venus 20y → Sun 6y → Moon 10y → Mars 7y → Rāhu 18y → Jupiter 16y → Saturn 19y → Mercury 17y. Determined by Janma-nakṣatra.

"Combination" or "union." A specific planetary combination producing a defined effect. Hundreds of named yogas in classical texts.

4th Aṣṭakūṭa factor · 4 points · physical/sexual compatibility via animal-symbolic categorisation of nakṣatras (horse, elephant, snake, lion, deer, rat, etc.). Hostile pairings = 0 points.
